Job Location: Kyangwali – Hoima District
Reports to: Settlement Administrator
Primary function:
The Lead Teacher will be responsible to oversee the day today activities at the AEP centre in collaboration with main stream Head teacher and NRC program staff to create a safe and child friendly learning environment that is conducive for teaching and learning, participate in community mobilization and sensitization on regular basis, teaching and continuous assessment of learners and Conduct meetings for staff, learners, centre management committees.
Responsibilities
• Providing centre leadership and coordination role in collaboration with Education Assistant for effective and efficient learning of AEP centres
• Conducting meetings for staff, learners, centre management committees and any assigned
• Providing enabling learning environment according to the learning framework from National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) and agreed timetable as of MEOS
• Selecting and using differentiated learner- centred teaching methods
• Promoting a safe and child friendly learning environment that is conducive for teaching and learning
• Provide continuous assessment of learners and provision of feedback on progress reports with teacher.
• Maintaining record of learners including registration, enrolment, attendance and dropouts.
• Developing teaching /learning aids and other instructional materials to support teaching/learning
• Supporting learners’ participation in school, extra-curricular and school activities.
• Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on regular basis.
• Responsible for general hygiene of the children and centre/school.
• Provide psychosocial support to learners in need.
• Perform any other duty assigned by the direct supervisors
Mandatory Requirements:
• Diploma and Grade III Certificate in Primary Education
• Registered with Ministry of Education and Sports, in possession of registration certificates
• Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experiences in primary school
Knowledge, skills and competencies
• Good skills in coordinating, and supervising educational projects
• Demonstrate understanding of the education policy and practices in Uganda,
• A firm grounding in program activity Monitoring and Evaluation,
• Good team building, mentoring experiences and skills are desirable
• Good knowledge and practice of guidance and counselling for both teachers and learners
• Good command of English and communication skills
• Experience from working with education projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Ability to speak any local language commonly spoken by the beneficiaries
• Knowledge of the local context and education systems in Uganda
• Ability to work harmoniously with the refugees and host communities
