About Uganda Womens Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO)
Uganda Womens Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) is a National Non-Government Organization which was founded in 1986 by Ugandan mothers committed to support and care for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). Its vision is to have Healthy Children living in a peaceful world of Opportunity and mission is Shriving to improve the quality of life of vulnerable children and youth for them to survive and thrive.
Job Title: Head of Finance and Operations (1 Position based at Head Office and Reports to the Chief Executive Officer)
The main output of the function is financial analysis and reporting.
Core Functions
Directs, coordinates, and performs the timely closing of accounts and preparation of financial statements at all levels.
Directs, coordinates, and performs the preparation and submission to the CEO of periodic and annually financial statements.
Formulate finance policies and systems for UWESO
Planning, budgeting and strategizing for the department and UWESO
Budget Management
Cash Flow management
Reconcile payables and receivables
Prepare and submit accounting warrants/Permits
Cash Management
Financial reporting &analysis
Report on operational performance and suggest improvements
Provides directives and follows up on the preparation and timely submission of budget proposals by projects.
Approves expenditures and payments ensuring that these are appropriate, supported by necessary documents are as per budget. Signs cheques as per the delegation thereon.
Ensures the proper accounting of assets and property of UWESO.
Ensure effective Grant management at all stages Start up, Implementation and closure as per Donor guidelines and within the stipulated timelines.
Ensure Compliance with all Donor requirements, (including efficient and effective reporting).
Reviewing and ensuring that Project requests are in line with Donor Guidelines and approved work plans.

Education and Experience Requirements
BCOM/BBA and Full qualification of ACCA/ CPA, Membership to the institute of certified public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), and more than 5 Years of Managerial leadership experience in a similar job or its equivalent.
Additional experience in NGO community-funded programmes including managing donor grants will be of great advantage.
Good knowledge and sound understanding of current financial management and funding arrangements is desirable.
Experience and knowledge in the use of accounting software (Navision).
Ability to work well in a team comprised of people with diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds. S/he should have strong leadership and good communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
