BRAC International (BI) is seeking application from competent, dynamic and self-motivated individuals to fill the following position:
Head of Finance, BRAC Uganda
The Head of Finance will work closely with the Country Director and the Country Management Team in developing BRAC Uganda strategic plan. S/he acts as the primary liaison to the board of directors’ finance committee, working closely with the committee to strengthen BRAC Uganda financial position and other items as required. S/he will continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.
Lead the development and implementation of high quality Annual Strategic Plan and AOP of the finance and accounts department relevant to the local context and the organisational priorities.
S/he is the primary liaison to the board of directors’ finance committee and works closely with it to strengthen BRAC Ugandas financial position and other items as required.
Work closely with the Country Director and the Country Management Team in developing BRAC Uganda strategic plan especially the financial aspect.
Leadership and Stakeholder financial management (Banks, Suppliers, staff, statutory bodies, programs, projects).
Develop, set up and manage financial reporting systems, procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with donor and stakeholder requirements and provide reports to guide decision making process.
Financial payments, business process facilitation and overseeing the quality implementation of the financed activities.
Develop, manage, monitor and oversee the budget lifecycle.
Manage audits both external and internal and ensure a good inventory management process.
Prepare and submit standard monthly, quarterly and annual reports and other supporting documents to the Country Director, Bl anchor, donors and relevant partners.
Continuously evaluate the best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.
Has the overall responsibility for recruitment, retention, performance and staff development of the finance team.
Implementation of the BRAC vision, mission, values and policies including an effective safeguarding policy.
Establish a safeguarding culture across all level of the programme by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Responsible to ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
Masters degree in Business Administration/ Finance / Commerce/ Accounting/ Statistics/ related field.
CPA/ ACCA will be preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
Critical thinking, decision making and adaptability to pressure
Knowledge of contemporary accounting packages
Good financial management skills, system set up and development
Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
Ability to interpret documents and understand procedures
Writing reports and correspondence.
Excellent cross cultural people management skills
Interpersonal skills and customer care.
7+ years experience in complex accounting and finance systems, including reporting, budgeting, audit at management position in a reputable organisation handling a large portfolio.
Experience in donor funded projects with understanding about rules and regulation of major donors.
A strong experience in working with national partners, local/government authorities.
